Vyshnavi Arts

The studio is at Plot No:C-506 in NGO Colony, which is a fairly quiet part of Vanasthaslipuram. Vyshnavi Arts is basically just a room filled with canvases and the smell of linseed oil and turpentine. I started this because I couldn't imagine doing anything else with my time. It isn't a fancy gallery with white walls and bright lights. It's more of a workshop where things are constantly being moved around to make space for a new project. Sometimes the floor is covered in wood shavings from frames, and other times it is just jars of brushes soaking in water. People from the colony often drop by just to see what’s on the easel that week. It’s nice having neighbors who take an interest in what you’re painting. The light in this part of Vanasthaslipuram is actually quite good in the mornings, which helps a lot with color work. I don't spend much time on the computer or doing paperwork if I can help it. I’d rather be mixing colors or sketching out an idea on a scrap of paper. It’s a small operation, just me and occasionally some help when a big order comes in for a local school or a gift. It’s a simple life, mostly just working through the heat and trying to get the details right on whatever is in front of me. I keep the door open when it is cool enough to let the breeze in.
