Tung Kein Chinese Restaurant sits inside the Badam Sohana Apartments on Raj Bhavan Road. If you know the Somajiguda area, you know how busy it gets around here. We opened this place because there weren’t many spots nearby where you could just sit down and get a decent plate of noodles without a lot of fuss. The apartment building is a bit old, but it works for us. Inside, it’s mostly just tables and the sound of the pans clanging in the back. We use a lot of garlic and ginger, so the whole hallway in the building usually smells like our kitchen by dinner time. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so you might see the same few faces every time you come in. Sometimes we run out of certain ingredients if the market was bad that morning, but we try to make do with what we have. The regulars from the offices nearby usually come in for lunch and they don't even look at the menu anymore. They just tell us to bring whatever is fresh. We don't have fancy decorations or those bright lights you see in the malls. It is just a simple room with food that fills you up. Somajiguda is a fast place, but inside here, things move a bit slower. We just keep the stove hot and wait for the evening rush to start after the sun goes down every day.
