Up on the 5th floor of Vista Grand Towers in Somajiguda, that’s where you’ll find Race Animation And Media College. Being in a tall building in a place like Hyderabad means we spend a lot of time waiting for the elevators, especially in the mornings. Once you get inside our space, it’s mostly the sound of computer fans humming and people clicking mice. Animation takes a lot of sitting and staring at screens, so the atmosphere is usually pretty quiet and focused. We’ve got workstations lined up, and you’ll see sketches and notes pinned up all over the place. It’s not a corporate office where everyone wears suits. Most of the folks here are in jeans, drinking coffee and trying to figure out a difficult frame or a bit of software. Somajiguda is a busy part of town, so looking out the windows gives you a good view of the traffic down below. We don’t have a lot of fancy decorations. We just have the gear people need to do their work. Sometimes we stay late because a project is almost done, and the city lights look pretty good from the fifth floor then. It’s just a bunch of people who like making things. We don’t make a big deal out of it; we just come in, sit at the computers, and get to it.
