Gamya Spices

Our place, Gamya Spices, is located at 7-3-133/2 over in the Gaganpahad area, near Survey No 69/A. If you walk near our building in Rajendranagar, you can usually smell the chilies or the turmeric from a block away. It gets into your clothes and stays there all day. We have a few machines for grinding and some space for drying out the raw materials before they get processed. It is a bit loud inside when everything is running at once. We get the raw spices from the local markets and spend a lot of time sorting through them to get out the stones and dirt. It is mostly manual work with a few of us sitting on the floor and going through the piles. The space is a bit cramped because of all the gunny bags stacked up to the ceiling. We don't have any fancy packaging machines, so a lot of the bagging is done by hand with a simple heat sealer. Some days the dust is so thick we have to take breaks every hour just to breathe clearly. Gaganpahad is an industrial kind of spot, so it fits what we do. We just focus on getting the grinding done and making sure the bags are filled properly. It is hard work and our hands are always stained yellow or red, but it is what we know how to do. We just keep the machines oiled and the floors swept as much as we can.
