If you’re ever in Begum Bazar, you might come across Dilbahar Garam Masala Co. We are at 15-7-400, right near the Sardarmal Dhanraj Store. This area is legendary for spices and trade. The smell of pepper, cloves, and cardamom is everywhere you go. Our shop is a small, busy place where we pack and sell our masalas. Begum Bazar is always crowded, with narrow lanes and people pushing carts, but that’s where the heart of the spice trade is. We’ve been here doing this for years. It’s a family-style environment. We aren't interested in being a big multinational brand. We just like making good garam masala that people in the neighborhood want to use in their cooking. The walls of the shop are stained with the colors of the spices, and there’s always a bit of dust in the air. We talk to our customers, mostly regulars who have been buying from us for a long time. There’s no fancy packaging or television ads. We just weigh the spices, bag them up, and hand them over. Sometimes we run out of a certain mix, and people have to wait a day or two. It’s a very traditional way of doing things. The building is old, and the stairs are steep, but it works for us. It’s a noisy, vibrant place to work every day.
