Badam Ki Jali

Our small business, Badam Ki Jali, is located in Aziz Bagh, within the Noor Khan Bazar area of Hyderabad. We are quite close to the Salarjung Museum, so we get visitors from there sometimes. This isn't a new shop; we’ve been making traditional sweets for a long time. The recipes we use have been around for generations. We don't use big machines or a factory. Most of the work is done by hand in our kitchen. Badam ki jali is what we are known for, but we make other things too. It’s a lot of tedious work, sitting and shaping the sweets, but it’s what we know. The shop itself is quite small and tucked away in the lane. We don't have neon signs or big displays. People usually find us through word of mouth or because their parents used to buy from us. We deal with the heat from the ovens every day. It’s a family-run operation, so everyone chips in where they can. Sometimes we have a lot of orders for weddings, and we are working late into the night. Other days are quieter. We don't use any fancy packaging, just simple boxes that do the job. We focus on the ingredients we get from the local market. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, and we haven't changed much over the years. It’s just our way of life here in Noor Khan Bazar.
