Arjun School Of Martial Arts India is based in Akbar Bagh over in the Saidabad area. We have been teaching here for some time, mostly out of a space that we’ve set up with mats and a few punching bags. It is not one of those shiny gyms you see in the malls. It’s a real place where people come to sweat and learn how to move. The air usually smells a bit like old mats and hard work, which is normal for a dojo. We have classes for younger kids and for some adults too. My life revolves around the training schedule. I spend a lot of time showing the same kicks and punches over and over until the students get them right. It takes a lot of patience. Sometimes it gets crowded in the evenings when the work day ends and everyone shows up at once. We don't have a receptionist or a sales team to call people. If someone wants to learn, they just show up at the door and we talk. It’s a simple setup. We focus on the discipline and the physical part of it. When the rain comes down hard, you can hear it on the roof, but we just keep on practicing our forms. It is just us and the work we do on the mats. The neighborhood of Saidabad is where most of our students come from, just local people looking for something to do. We keep the floor clean and the lights on.
