Fortune Granites And Exports is located over on 13, Sheela Street in Karapalli. It’s a quiet enough area most of the time, except when we are busy loading the heavy slabs onto the trucks. Granite is heavy stuff, and we spend a big part of our day just moving it around with the crane. We have been in Karapalli for a good number of years now. The people in the neighborhood know us. Usually, you can hear the saws cutting through the stone from way down the street. It makes a specific kind of screeching sound that you never really forget once you hear it. We deal with exports too, so there is always a lot of packing and wooden crates sitting around the yard. It's not a fancy setup at all. We just have the stone, the tools, and enough space to work. Sometimes the dust gets everywhere, even if we try to keep it clean with the water spray. We just focus on getting the slabs cut to the right size and making sure nothing cracks during the process. It takes a lot of patience to work with stone. If you come by the shop, you might have to wait a minute for someone to come out from the back. We are usually busy with the heavy lifting or checking the measurements. The sun gets real hot on the street, so we usually start our day early and finish up before it gets unbearable. We just do the work.
