We are based over at Mr. Paulraj's place in Bharathi Nagar. It’s a dusty spot in Arasanetty, but we’ve been here in Hosur long enough to know the stone business inside out. We spend most of our days cutting slabs and moving them around the yard. It's hard on the hands and the back, but it's what we do. The sun can be pretty brutal here in Tamilnadu, especially when you're working outside with the granite blocks all day. We have some machines that help us with the heavy lifting and the polishing, but a lot of it is still just manual labor. People come by Mookandapalli to see what we have in stock. We don’t have a fancy showroom or a bunch of salespeople in suits. It’s just us and the stone. Sometimes the cuts aren't perfectly smooth on the first go and we have to do them over. We try to be careful so we don't waste any material. The yard gets crowded when new shipments come in from the quarries. We just try to keep things moving and get the orders out to the customers on time. It’s not an easy life, but there’s something nice about seeing a rough piece of rock turn into a polished slab.
