Our office for Bhatol Jattan Farmers Producer Companylimited is actually inside a house in Defence Colony, number 132 to be exact. It’s a quiet residential street in Hisar, which is a bit different from being out in the fields, but it works for us. We use the space to organize all the things the farmers need. Since we are a producer company, it’s all about the group effort. We have people from the village coming in and out at all hours. Sometimes we sit on the porch and talk about the weather or how the wheat is looking this year. It isn't a corporate building with a receptionist. You just walk up and knock on the door. We handle a lot of the administrative stuff that the farmers don't have time for when they are busy working the land. It's a lot of spreadsheets and phone calls to buyers. We try to keep things simple and honest. We’ve lived in this area for a long time, so we know the families and the history of the farms around here. It’s not a fancy job, and some days it feels like we are just drowning in paperwork, but it’s important to keep the collective going. We just do our bit to make sure the farmers of Bhatol Jattan have a voice and a place to handle their business without too much trouble from the big city systems.
