Shravanabelagola Coconut Farmers Producer Company Limited

Our little group is based in Uttenahalli, right over in Shravanabelagola. We use Bhagyamma’s place as our main spot to meet. We are all coconut farmers from this area. Growing coconuts is not exactly easy work, especially when you are doing it all on your own. We figured if we formed a producer company, we could handle the harvest and the sales a lot better as a group. It is not a formal business setting at all. It is mostly just neighbors and friends sitting together and trying to figure out the best way to move our produce. We spend most of our time out in the groves, so the office work usually happens in the evenings or when it is raining too hard to be outside. We don’t have any fancy equipment or big desks. Just a few ledgers and a lot of talk about the trees. Some years the coconuts are great and some years they are small, but we just take it as it comes. Being in Uttenahalli is good because we are right where the trees are. We are just honest people trying to make a living off the land. We don’t use any marketing tricks or big promises. We just want to make sure we can keep the coconut farming going for the next generation. It is just a simple, local way of doing things that works for us.
