Halebidu Farmers Producer Companylimited is right in the heart of Halebeedu, over in Belur. Our shop is number 6 on the first floor of the Nanjappa Complex on Hale Sante Beedi. That’s the old market street where everything happens. People come from all over to see the old temples here, but for us, it’s just home and where we farm. We started this company because the middle-men were taking too much and the farmers were left with very little. It’s a small operation. We don't have fancy furniture or a computer for everyone. Most of the time, the room is full of farmers from the nearby villages talking about the price of ragi or how the monsoon is looking. We don't have a polished way of speaking. We just tell it like it is. If the market is down, we say so. We try to group our produce together to get a better price, but it’s a constant struggle. The stairs to the office are a bit steep and the fans make a lot of noise, but it's our place. We are just trying to make a living and help our neighbors do the same. It isn't a grand project, just a local effort to keep our farming community going in Hassan. When you are around Halebeedu, you can see how much work goes into every bag of grain we sell.
