Sha Khalandar Convent is tucked away in Khalandar Nagar over in Javagal. It’s a busy place during the week. We’ve been here in Hassan for a while now. Most days it’s just the usual school stuff, like kids lining up for assembly and the teachers getting their chalk ready. The building is at number 64. You can’t miss it if you’re walking down the street because there’s always someone coming or going. Sometimes the power goes out, but we just open the windows and keep going with the lessons. It gets quite loud when the lunch bell rings. Everyone runs out to the small play area. We’ve got local kids from all over the neighborhood. The desks are a bit old and some of the paint is peeling near the back entrance, but it’s a place where work gets done. My desk is usually covered in notebooks that need marking. People stop by the gate to ask about admissions or just to say hello on their way to the market. Javagal is a quiet enough place except for when school is starting or finishing. We don't have anything fancy here, just classrooms and some blackboards. It’s more about the day-to-day work of teaching. The bells ring on time mostly. We try to keep the place tidy, though the kids make it hard with their muddy shoes after it rains. It’s just how things go at a local school like ours.
