We run Good Citizen School on Sravanbelagula Road in Channarayapatna. It’s in the Hassan district, and the road outside can be quite busy with people traveling to the temples. Our school is a simple building that we have added to over the years as we needed more space for the growing number of students. Most of the kids come from the nearby villages and farms. They are hardworking children. We spend our days following the government curriculum, but we also try to teach them how to be polite and helpful. There isn't a lot of extra money for big renovations, so we fix things ourselves when we can. We have a small garden area that the students help look after, which keeps the place looking a bit green and gives us some fresh air away from the dust. The staff room is small and usually filled with the smell of tea and old papers where we sit during breaks to talk about the day. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. People mostly hear about us through word of mouth from their neighbors. Some days are better than others, like when all the kids pass their exams or when we have a sports day. Other days we are just dealing with muddy floors after it rains or trying to find a replacement for a sick teacher. It’s just a normal school life here in Channarayapatna. We open the gates every morning and do our best.
