Pukar Salon

Down at South Sarania Road in Ulubari, you can find Pukar Salon. We are inside House No 125, which is quite close to the Red Chilli Restaurant. It’s a handy spot if you want to get a haircut and then go eat something nearby. The shop is small and we’ve decorated it simply. We have been here in Guwahati for a good bit of time now. Usually, it’s just the sound of scissors and the radio playing in the background. We get people from all over the neighborhood. Some stay for a long chat while others just want to get in and out quickly. We don't have any of those expensive machines, just the usual combs, scissors, and razors. The chairs are a bit old but they are comfortable enough. We try to keep the place tidy, though hair finds its way into every corner. South Sarania Road is usually quite busy, so there’s always something to look at through the window. It feels good to be part of the local community here. We know the families around Ulubari and see their kids grow up. It’s just a normal barber shop where people come to relax for a few minutes. We don’t make a big fuss about things. We just do the work and hope people leave feeling a bit better than when they walked in.
