Daya Hair Dresser

Our shop, Daya Hair Dresser, sits right along Odalbakra Road in Guwahati. It’s a busy part of town and there is always someone walking by or a car honking outside. We have been here in Odalbakra for several years now. The floor is made of old tiles that have seen better days, and the chairs have a few cracks in the leather, but they still work fine for anyone who needs a seat. I start the day by opening the metal shutters and putting out the small bench for people who have to wait. Most of our customers live right here in the neighborhood or work at the shops nearby. We don't do anything complicated, just standard hair cutting and shaves for the local men. Sometimes the power goes out in this part of Guwahati, and we have to rely on the natural light coming through the door. It gets quite humid here, especially during the monsoon season, so we keep the windows open when we can. The tea stall next door is where I get my morning chai, and often the smell of ginger tea drifts inside the shop. It is a simple life running a business like this. We know the names of the regulars and what they usually want without them having to say much. It’s just a normal shop on a normal road where we do our work every day without much fuss or any big advertisements. We close up once the sun goes down and the traffic thins out.
