Beauty Pan Bhandar

I started this little pan shop on GS Road in Ulubari a long time ago. It’s right near Hotel East India, so we get all sorts of people walking by. Mostly it’s just locals who want a quick pan or maybe a pack of cigarettes after their meals. Guwahati is a busy place, and this road is always noisy with cars and buses, but we have our own rhythm here. We keep the usual things like sweet pan, saada pan, and some snacks or cold drinks in the small fridge. It isn’t a big fancy showroom, just a small counter where I sit most of the day. My hands are usually stained with the lime and catechu, but that’s just part of the job. Some days are very slow, especially when it rains heavy like it does in Assam. But then the evening comes and people start gathering around to talk. I don’t have any big staff or anything, just me and sometimes my nephew helps out when I need to go get supplies. We try to keep the stock fresh. People know me by name here, and I know what most of them like before they even ask. It’s a simple life, just running a shop in the middle of the city.
