Jaiswal Fruit Juice & Veg Corner

You can find our little corner in Yadav Market, which is part of the larger Bada Bazar area. It is always a bit chaotic here with people pushing carts and shouting out prices. We sell fresh fruit juice and a variety of vegetables that we bring in every morning. My day starts long before the sun comes up because I have to go and pick out the best produce. If you don't get there early, you end up with the leftovers. Once we get back to the shop, we spend hours washing everything and setting up the display. The juice machine is the heart of the shop and it runs almost non-stop during the hot months. We go through a lot of oranges and pineapples every day. There are always heaps of fruit peels in the corner that we have to clear out. We don't have a lot of room, so the vegetables are piled up on wooden slats and the floor. It’s a wet and sticky job, especially when we are crushing ice for the drinks. We have a few regular customers who come by every single day for their morning juice. We chat about the weather or the market prices while I prepare their order. It’s physically demanding work and we are on our feet until we close the shutters late in the evening. We don't use any fancy syrups, just the fruit as it is. It's a busy, honest living in the market.
