D K High School is situated near the Batala Sugar Mills in Gurdaspur. It’s an area that stays busy with the local industry, so there is always some noise outside. Our school building is a sturdy brick one that has stood through many seasons. We have students from all around the nearby villages and the mill area. It is a no-nonsense kind of place. We have classrooms for the older kids and the younger ones too. The desks are wooden and have seen a lot of use over the years. We don't have air conditioning or anything like that, just ceiling fans that hum all day long. The teachers here are local people who care about the students. We focus on the textbooks and making sure everyone understands the lessons. During the winter, the morning fog can be quite thick around here, but the kids still make it to class on time. We have a small yard where they play during the break. It’s not a fancy sports field, just a patch of ground. We don't make big promises or use fancy words to describe what we do. We just provide a place for kids to get their education without having to travel too far into the main city. It’s a practical school for practical people who live and work around the sugar mills. We just keep our heads down and do the work. There isn't anything complicated about how we run things, we just show up and teach.
