S K Fire Works

Tis Hazari is usually full of lawyers and people rushing to court, but over here at the Western Wing, at shop 259/60, it’s a different kind of busy. S K Fire Works is a small space crammed with cardboard boxes from floor to ceiling. You have to be careful where you walk because there isn’t much room. We spend a lot of time just moving stuff around so we can reach the back. It gets very hot in the afternoons and the air feels a bit heavy with the smell of paper and old packaging. When the festival season comes, it gets really crowded and everyone is shouting for different things. The rest of the year it’s a bit slower and I mostly just check the inventory and make sure nothing is getting damp. I sit on a plastic stool by the entrance and watch people walk past the court buildings. Sometimes I wonder how many papers they have in those big offices compared to how many boxes I have here. The walls haven't been painted in years and there’s a tea stain on the desk that won't come off. I don't mind it much. It’s my spot and I know where everything is even if it looks like a mess to someone else. We keep the shutters halfway down if the sun is too bright. It’s just how we do things in this corner of the building.
