South India Trading Co

Our business, South India Trading Co, is located in Shakarpur right on the main Vikash Marg at A-156-157. This road is always packed with cars and buses, so it’s quite a loud place to work every day. We’ve been here for a good number of years and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. We mostly handle trading of different goods and our day is mostly spent checking lists and moving boxes around the storage area. It’s physical work and by the end of the day, our backs usually ache a bit. The warehouse gets quite cramped when a new shipment arrives and we have to stack things all the way to the ceiling. We don't have any fancy showroom or big displays. It is just a practical workspace where we get things done. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to suppliers and trying to figure out where the delivery trucks are stuck in traffic. Usually, we have a small radio playing some old songs in the corner to keep us company. The office part is just a couple of wooden desks and some old filing cabinets that have seen better days. We write everything down in thick registers because that’s how we’ve always done it. It feels more real than just typing into a computer all day long. We know the local tea seller by name and he brings us four cups every morning without us even asking. It's a steady life here.
