We are over at House No. 110 on Street No. 9 in Karkardooma. It’s a small office where we handle all the waterproofing stuff. The neighborhood is usually pretty quiet until the morning rush starts. We’ve been doing this for a while now, mostly fixing leaky roofs and damp walls in the area. It’s not the cleanest job in the world. We spend a lot of our time covered in sealant or dust from old concrete. Our office is just a place to store the brushes, buckets, and rolls of membrane. There isn’t much to look at, just a few chairs and a desk where we keep the logs. When it rains, our phones don't stop ringing. Everyone in Karkardooma seems to have a ceiling that drips once the monsoon hits. We just load up the back of the scooter or the small truck and head out. Sometimes we have to crawl into tight basement corners to find where the water is coming from. It’s hard work and the smell of the chemicals can be strong. We don’t have any fancy uniforms or big slogans. We just show up, find the crack, and seal it up so the owner can sleep without a bucket under the leak. It’s just us, a few local guys who know how to handle the water problems that come with these old Delhi buildings. We try to be honest about what needs doing and how long it’ll take.
