Raj Petha Bhandar

We are located at 75, Vijay Block, right in the heart of Laxmi Nagar on the Main Vikas Marg. It’s a very busy street, and people are always rushing past. Our shop is where we make and sell petha, which is a lot of work involving big pumpkins and a whole lot of sugar. The air inside is always sweet and a bit damp from the boiling syrup. We spend hours peeling and dicing and soaking the fruit. It’s a sticky business, and by the end of the shift, everything feels like it’s coated in sugar. We have big vats in the back where the magic happens, though it looks more like hard labor than magic most days. Customers come in looking for a box to take to their relatives or just a small treat for themselves. We try to keep the display looking full, but it’s hard when the rush starts. Laxmi Nagar is never quiet, so there’s a constant soundtrack of horns and people shouting outside. We’ve got a few workers who have been doing this for decades, and they can tell if the petha is ready just by looking at the color of the syrup. It’s a traditional way of working, and we don't see any reason to change it.
