Most people in Delhi know the name Nirulas, but our specific spot is over here at 137, Dayanand Vihar. It is a familiar corner for the people living around Delhi-92. We have the usual setup with the booths and the menu boards that have been around for a while. The fridge hums in the background all day because keeping the ice cream cold is the main thing we worry about. On the weekends, the place gets full of families and kids making a bit of a mess, which is just part of the routine. We spend a lot of time mopping the floors and wiping down the tables after the lunch rush is over. It is not a very big space, so it can feel a bit cramped when the delivery drivers are all standing around waiting for their orders. The parking outside is always a bit of a headache, but people seem to find a way to squeeze in. We have seen a lot of regulars grow up over the years, coming back first as students and then with their own kids. It is just a regular eatery in a busy part of the city. We do not try to be anything we are not. We just open the shutters in the morning, get the kitchen going, and stay until the last customer leaves at night. It is a lot of work but we have been doing it for long enough that it feels like second nature.
