Ponmani Matriculation Higher Secondary School

Usilampatti is a quiet place most of the time, and our school is tucked right into the mix of things. We are out here in the Madurai district. Ponmani Matriculation Higher Secondary School has been part of this community for years. If you walk through the gates, you’ll see the older students heading to their labs while the younger ones are probably out in the yard. It’s a big building, and there is always something that needs fixing, like a leaky tap or a squeaky door. The staff room is usually a mess of papers and lunch boxes by noon. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. It is just us teachers and the administration staff trying to keep the schedule running. Some days are harder than others, especially when the weather is humid. We have students coming in from nearby villages, so the mornings are always a bit of a rush. The desks are worn down from years of use, but they still work fine. We focus on the textbooks and the exams, making sure the kids know their subjects. There is a lot of chatter in the hallways during the breaks. You get used to the noise after a while. It feels like a small town within a town. We just try to provide a decent place for the kids to spend their day and learn something useful.
