Bhavan'S Gandhi Vidyashram School

Up here on Golf Links Road in Kodaikanal, things are a bit different than the schools down in the plains. Bhavan'S Gandhi Vidyashram School sits in a spot where the mist often rolls in during the afternoons. It can get quite chilly, so you’ll see all the students and the teachers wearing their thick sweaters and mufflers for most of the year. The buildings have that old look to them that fits in with the hills. We have some open space around the classrooms, and sometimes you can see the clouds moving right across the playground. It is a quiet area, away from the main tourist spots, so the only real noise is the wind in the trees or the kids shouting during their lunch break. We’ve got some stone paths that get a bit slippery when it rains, which happens quite often here. The classrooms are simple with wooden windows that we have to shut tight when the weather turns bad. We don't have any high-tech gadgets or shiny new wings, just the same steady classrooms we've used for a long time. It’s a peaceful place to be, and the air is always fresh, even if it’s a bit damp. People who live in Kodaikanal know that life moves a bit slower up here, and our school feels exactly like that. We just go about our business and keep the fire going in the office.
