Our little group is located in Nabhakatia Gaon, which is a village in the Tinkhong area. If you’re looking for us, we are mostly around Ward Number 1 at Mineswar Bailung’s place. It is a very typical village setting where the rhythm of life is set by the rice fields and the tea gardens nearby. Most of us here have spent our whole lives in these fields. We started Asujya so we could have a bit more say in how our crops are sold and how we get our supplies. It is a lot of work to keep a company running when you are also trying to tend to your own land. We meet up in the evenings to go over the numbers and talk about what needs to be done for the next season. The roads around Tinkhong can be rough, especially when it rains, so getting our produce out to the main market is always an adventure. We don’t have any big marketing plans or anything like that. We just want to make sure the work we do in the heat and rain pays off. Everyone in the village knows who we are and what we’re trying to do. It’s about being honest with each other and working the soil the only way we know how. It’s a quiet life for the most part, but it keeps us on our toes through the year.
