Our spot is over at Building Number 36, inside the Merchants Association Building. Being right in the New Cotton Market means there is always something going on outside. Asalaji Selajis Nakoda Cottons and Real Estate Developers has been operating from here for quite a bit of time now. The market is noisy and full of trucks and people carrying bundles of cloth. We deal with both the cotton side of things and the property side, so our days are never really the same. One minute we are talking about fabric and the next we are looking at land papers. The office gets quite dusty because of all the activity in the cotton market. We have stacks of files everywhere. It’s an old building, but it has a lot of character and history. Most of the other merchants around here are friends or people we have known for years. We usually have tea delivered from the stall downstairs twice a day. It’s not a corporate environment at all. We just sit at our wooden desks and handle whatever comes through the door. Sometimes the rain makes it hard to get around the market, but we stay open anyway. It’s a busy life here in the heart of the trade area. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. People just know us by our name and where we sit. It’s a practical way to run things and keep the business going.
