Up on the first floor at Plot No.F-2/16 on Ansari Road, that’s where you’ll find the office for Prashant Book Publishers & Distributors. Daryaganj is a very busy place for the book trade, as anyone who lives in this part of Delhi already knows. We have been working from this specific office for a long time. Our day is usually filled with a lot of phone calls, shipping labels, and general paperwork. We publish some of our own things and we act as distributors for even more titles from other places. The stairs leading up to our office are a bit steep and narrow, especially when you are trying to carry a heavy bag of book samples or supplies. Inside, there are several desks piled high with old catalogs and ledger books. We aren't trying to be the biggest or most famous name on the street, just a reliable one that people can count on. The tea man comes around twice a day, and that is usually when we take a small break. We talk to authors, we talk to various shop owners, and we just try to make the numbers work out at the end of the month. Daryaganj has a certain kind of frantic energy to it, but we are mostly just here during the week doing the regular daily grind. It’s a bit messy and noisy with the traffic outside, but it’s our space. We just keep the wheels turning.
