Our spot at Meena Estate on the 1st Main Road is usually buzzing on the weekends. Sowripalayam is a busy area, and we’re right in the middle of it at number 55. It’s a beauty clinic, but it feels more like a place to catch up on local gossip while getting your hair done or a facial. We don’t have those fancy automatic doors or a receptionist in a suit. It’s just us. You’ll walk in and probably hear someone laughing or the sound of a hair dryer going. The mirrors have a few smudges sometimes, but that’s because we’re actually working. We do the basic stuff that people need. Threading, cutting hair, maybe some skin things when someone has a wedding to go to. It’s a small space, so you get to know the person in the next chair pretty quickly. We’ve been on this road for a good bit now. Some of our customers have been coming since they were kids and now they bring their own daughters. It’s nice to see how the neighborhood changes. We keep the tea kettle going in the back for the staff and sometimes for a regular who’s been waiting a while. It’s not a spa from a magazine, just a local shop where you can get cleaned up and feel a bit better about yourself. The light in the afternoon hits the front window just right and makes the whole place feel warm. We're just around the corner from the temple.
