Vijay Garments Limited

Our workshop is at Plot No. D - 3(2) inside the MEPZ area in Tambaram. Being in a Special Economic Zone means there are lots of other factories and big buildings all around us. It is a very industrial part of the city. We have a lot of space here compared to some of the smaller shops in town. Vijay Garments Limited has been operating from this plot for a while now. Every morning the security at the gate lets us in, and we head to our section. It is a large room with high ceilings, which is good because it stays a bit cooler. We have many rows of machines and people working on different parts of the clothing. Some are cutting the patterns while others are doing the final stitching. There is a constant hum of electricity and air moving around. It can be quite a long walk from the main entrance to our specific unit. We usually bring our lunch and eat together in the break area because there aren't many places to go nearby. Tambaram is always busy with traffic, so we try to leave before the worst of it starts in the evening. The work is steady and there is always a new batch of fabric coming in on the trucks. We just keep our heads down and make sure the daily targets are met without any fuss. It is a big operation but we just take it one day at a time.
