R. K. Leather & Garments

R. K. Leather & Garments is based in the Periamet neighborhood of Chennai. We actually have a couple of spots where we do our work. One is at Number 4 on Perianna Maistry Street, just off Vepery High Road, and we also have Shop Number 2 at 40/133 on Vepery High Road itself. Periamet is a place that is famous for its leather trade, so we fit right in with the other businesses around here. It is always busy and quite noisy with the traffic on the high road. Our shops are filled with the scent of leather, which is something you get used to after a few days. We have stacks of leather hides and finished garments all over the place. It is not a very polished environment; it is more of a workshop where we actually make things. The fans stay on all day to help with the Chennai heat, but it is still a warm place to work. We spend our time cutting the leather and sewing the garments together. We don't have any big corporate goals or fancy mission statements to share. We just focus on the daily tasks of making the clothes and dealing with the people who come in. Most of our customers have been coming to us for years because they know where to find us. It is a practical, local business and we like keeping it that way. We just do our work and go home at the end of the day.
