We have been at 21 Kondi Chetty Street for a long time now. It’s an old spot, but it works for what we do at Leather Crafts (India) Pvt. Ltd. Mostly, we spend our days dealing with different types of leather and getting orders ready for the people who need them. It’s messy work sometimes. The smell of the hides is something you get used to after a week or so, but visitors always notice it right away. We have a small crew here. Some of us have been cutting and stitching for years, while others are still learning how to handle the tools properly without making mistakes. It’s not a fancy office or anything like that. Just a workshop where we keep the machines running and try to stay organized among the scraps. Sometimes the street gets really crowded with deliveries coming in and out, which makes things a bit slow and frustrating. We just focus on the job at hand and keep our heads down. People come by asking for all sorts of leather items, and we do what we can to help. It’s a lot of manual labor, really. You have to have a bit of patience when you're working with natural materials because they don't always behave the way you want them to. We try to keep the lights on and the benches busy from morning till evening. It’s just how we get things done here. Nothing too complicated about it.
