Venus Embroiders

Down here on 2nd Main Road in Muthamil Nagar, things stay pretty noisy. That’s just life in Kodungaiyur. We've got our machines set up for embroidery, and they make a specific kind of rhythmic sound that you get used to after a few hours. It’s mostly about thread and needles here. We spend a lot of time looking at patterns and making sure the colors match up. Sometimes the thread snaps and we have to rethread everything by hand, which can be a real pain if your eyes are tired. The shop isn't huge, so we have to keep everything organized or you can't even walk across the room. We get a lot of locals dropping by or just people passing through Muthamil Nagar who see the sign. It’s a simple setup. We don't have a big front office or anything. Just the work area and a small desk where we keep the books. The tea seller comes by twice a day, which is usually the highlight of the afternoon. We’ve been at this address for a long time. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy with the hoops and frames to worry about that. It’s not always easy, especially when the power cuts happen, but we manage. We just sit outside for a bit and talk until the lights come back on. Then it's back to the needles. We've seen a lot of changes in the area, but our little corner stays the same.
