Vendhar Television

Our place is located at No.35 North Phase in Kalaimagal Nagar. It’s right on the 3rd Main Road in Ekkaduthangal, which is usually packed with cars and people going to work. Being a TV station, you’d think it’s all glamour, but mostly it’s just a lot of people running around with cables and trying to make sure the screens are showing what they’re supposed to. The hallways at Vendhar Television are often cluttered with equipment boxes or rolls of tape. It gets pretty hectic when we are in the middle of a broadcast. We have our desks pushed together and there’s always someone talking loudly on a phone or shouting across the room about a camera angle. The air conditioning is usually cranked up high because of all the heat from the lights and the servers in the back. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the different rooms for editing and filming. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we’re all used to the weird hours and the constant hum of the machines. We usually eat our lunch at our desks while watching the monitors. It’s a fast-paced spot but it feels like a second home for most of us who spend more time here than at our own houses. It’s just how the television business works in this part of Chennai, with everyone trying to keep things moving on time.
