Varnam Fashions

Our place is called Gokulam, located at No. 26/1 63 on the IIIrd Main Road in Kasthuribai Nagar. This is in the Adyar area, which is a nice part of town with lots of trees and older houses. Varnam Fashions is tucked away here, and it feels more like a home than a factory. We have been in Adyar for quite some time now. The street is usually quiet, except for the occasional delivery van. We work in a space that used to be a regular house, so it has a different feel than a big industrial unit. We have our sewing setups in different rooms. It is a bit cramped when we have a lot of fabric, but we make it work. The people who work here are mostly from the local neighborhood or come in by bus. We don't use any fancy business talk. We just discuss what needs to be stitched and get on with it. Sometimes we sit on the porch during lunch to get some fresh air. It’s a very local way of doing things. We don't have a big corporate structure or managers watching every move. We just know what needs to be done each day. It’s a steady pace of life. We like being in Kasthuribai Nagar because it’s familiar and close to everything we need. We are just a small group of people making clothes in a quiet corner of Adyar. That is about it for us.
