Ans Leathers

Down on Thiruneermalai Main Road in Chrompet, you can find us at number 14. This part of Sripuram is always moving, and the road stays busy from dawn till dusk. We work with leather, so the smell of the hides is the first thing you notice when you walk into the shop. It is a scent we’ve grown used to over the years. We have a small crew here, mostly guys who have been cutting and stitching leather since they were teenagers. The tools we use are old but they still work better than the new stuff. We spend a lot of time hunched over the benches, making sure the edges are smooth and the stitching is straight. It is tough on the hands and the back, but it feels good to see a finished piece. We don't have a website or any of that, just the sign on the main road. Customers usually drop in because they saw our work on someone else. The shop gets a bit dusty with all the scrap pieces on the floor, but we sweep it out every evening. It’s a plain, honest business. We just take the leather and make it into something useful, trying to keep the things we make decent without making a big fuss about it. We finish up around eight and lock up, ready to do it all over again the next day.
