The shop at No. 28 Arulmurugan Nagar is where we spend all our time. Thirumudivakkam is a busy area, so there is always a hum of activity coming from the other units nearby. It’s mostly just metal and oil around here. The floor is stained from years of working on different parts and machines. We don't worry too much about the aesthetics because the work is what matters. My desk is tucked in the corner, covered in drawings and spare bolts that I might need later. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, especially when the machines have been running for hours. We usually keep the big front shutter halfway up to let some air in. Sometimes a stray dog wanders in looking for shade, and we don't mind. We just keep doing what we need to do. There is a tea stall down the road where we get our morning break. It’s a short walk but it’s good to get out for ten minutes. Most of the tools we use are older, but they still work just fine for the jobs we get. People stop by to ask questions or check on their orders, and we just talk to them plainly. There aren't any suits or ties in this building. Just heavy boots and shirts that have seen plenty of grease. It’s hard work, but it fills the day and pays the bills. That is basically our life here in this part of town.
