The New College

The New College is situated on Peters Road in Royapettah. It is a large campus with quite a bit of history. You can see the old architecture as you walk through the main gates. There are many trees providing shade, which is a relief in the Chennai heat. We have different buildings for various departments like science, arts, and commerce. The students move from one block to another between their classes. In the mornings, the entrance is crowded with bicycles and motorbikes. We have a large playground where the boys play football or cricket when they have free time. The office stays busy with all the administrative work, especially during the admission season. We use a lot of paper for the records and applications. The canteen is a noisy place where everyone gathers for a quick meal. You can hear the sounds of the city from the classrooms since Royapettah is a very central and busy part of Chennai. We have been working here for quite some time, and we see many generations of students pass through these halls. Some of the wooden benches in the older classrooms have been there for decades. It is not a modern, shiny building, but it has a lot of character. We just go about our daily tasks, managing the labs and the library. It is a stable place that has been part of the local community for a long time and keeps going every year.
