The Mark Fashions

The Mark Fashions is over at 4, Sundar Nagar on 6th Street in Alapakkam. It’s a quiet residential area for the most part, but we have our small unit set up here. We’ve been here for a few years now. It’s not a big factory, just a few of us working on garments. We do mostly shirts and some pants. The space is a bit cramped because we have so many rolls of cloth taking up space. You have to watch your step so you don’t trip over a thread spool. We don’t have air conditioning, so we keep the windows open and use big pedestal fans. It gets hot in the afternoons. Most of us have been working in the garment trade since we were young. We don’t use fancy software to design things; we just use chalk and patterns we’ve had for a long time. Sometimes the neighbors complain if we stay too late and the machines are noisy, but we try to be respectful. We don’t have a sales team. People usually find out about us from someone else who bought something here. We aren't trying to be the biggest in Alapakkam or anything. We just want to make decent clothes that don't fall apart after one wash. It’s simple work, and we like the routine of it. If you come by, we’ll probably just be busy at our tables.
