The British International School

Our place is located on Sultan Ahmed Street, just off the East Coast Road in Neelangarai. It is a nice enough area, being so close to the sea, so we get a bit of a breeze coming through the windows sometimes. The school is tucked away from the main ECR traffic, which helps keep things a bit calmer during the day. We have a mix of staff and students who come through these gates every morning. The building itself is a bit older, with rooms that have seen many years of different classes. We don't have those massive glass facades you see in the city center schools. Instead, it is a much more traditional setup. There are always papers to grade and whiteboards to be cleaned. During the monsoon season, we have to keep a close eye on the roof, and in the summer, we make sure the fans are all working properly. It is a lot of mundane work keeping a school running here in Chennai. We follow the usual curriculum and just try to keep the kids engaged with their books. Lunchtimes are usually quite loud, with everyone gathering in the common areas. We aren't part of some big corporate chain. It is just us here in Neelangarai, doing the daily work of teaching. The administrative side of things happens in a small office near the front. We just focus on the students and making sure the day ends with everyone getting home safely.
