Tanjore Arts/Paintings

We do Tanjore paintings here in Chennai. It’s a very old way of making art and it takes a lot of time and patience. We use real gold foil and small stones to make the pictures look the way they should. It’s not something you can rush through. We usually sit in a quiet corner of the studio to stay focused on the small details. Our hands get covered in paint, glue, and bits of gold most days. The whole process involves a lot of steps, from preparing the wooden board to the final touches of gold. It’s a traditional thing and we try to keep it simple without overdoing it. We don't have a big gallery or a fancy store. Most of our work is done in a small space where we can keep all our materials organized. Chennai is a big, loud city, but our corner is usually pretty calm while we work. People come to us when they want something special for their homes or for a wedding gift. Each painting ends up being a little different because they are all done by hand by us. We sometimes have to wait for days for layers to dry before we can move on to the next part. It’s a patient kind of work. We aren't trying to be the biggest art shop around. We just want to keep making these traditional paintings for people who like them. It's a craft we just enjoy.
