Being located at No. 39 Pinjala Subramaniam Road in T. Nagar means there is always something going on outside. This area is always moving. Inside India Silks, things are a bit quieter, but we stay busy with the stock. We have rows and rows of silk stored here. Most of our day is spent unfolding and refolding the fabrics so people can see the patterns. T. Nagar is known for this kind of thing, so we fit right in with the rest of the shops on the road. We don't bother with fancy displays or anything like that. The shelves are mostly just packed with what we have on hand. Sometimes the heat gets to us, but we keep the fans going and keep working. Dealing with silk takes a bit of patience because you can't rush the handling. We look at the threads and check the borders on the sarees and fabrics every day. It's steady work. Customers come in looking for something specific for a wedding or just for daily wear. We show them what’s available on the racks. It’s just me and a couple of others helping out. We've been in this building for a long time, and the walls have seen a lot of fabric pass through. It’s a plain place, really. We just focus on the material and making sure people find what they need without any fuss. It is a very simple way of doing things.
