We’ve been here at No. 19 North Usman Road for a good while now. T. Nagar is always busy, so there is usually a lot of noise outside our doors. Inside, it smells like tanned hides and old machines. Mostly, we deal with leather goods and getting things ready for customers who need specific items. It isn't a fancy place. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we spend most of our time looking at the benches and making sure the cuts are straight. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon, which slows us down, but we just wait it out. People come in asking for different things, and we try to see what we can do with the stock we have on hand. It is a lot of heavy lifting some days. We move rolls of leather from the back to the front, and then back again. My desk is covered in scraps and some old pens that barely work. We don't really have a big team, just a few of us who know how the leather feels and which pieces are better for certain jobs. If you walk past the shop, you might see us sitting by the entrance during lunch. It’s just how we run things here. Nothing too complicated, just daily work and keeping the shop open from Monday to Saturday until the sun goes down. We have a leaky tap in the corner sink too, which we really should fix one of these days.
