Suraj Garments

Suraj Garments is located at No:74 on Tank Street. It is a place where we spend a lot of time with fabric and machines. We’ve been on Tank Street for a long time, and we know just about everyone on the block. The shop is usually pretty loud with the sound of sewing and people talking. It’s not a big factory, just a local spot where we make clothes. We don't have a showroom with bright lights and mirrors everywhere. It’s more about the work tables and the shelves full of materials. People come to us because they know we’ve been here and we know what we are doing. We don’t really have a big sales pitch. If you need something made or fixed, we just do it. Tank Street can get pretty crowded, especially during the day, but we like the energy of it. It’s a real working neighborhood. We started small and we’ve stayed pretty much the same size because it’s easier to manage that way. We don’t have a website with fancy photos. Most people just walk in or call us. It’s a simple way to run things, but it works for us. We just try to do a decent job every day and keep the machines running. We’ve seen fashions change but our little corner remains pretty much the same. It is a lot of hard work, but we wouldn't have it any other way. There is always something new to sew or a different fabric to work with. The days are long, but good.
