Being in an industrial estate means we are surrounded by other workshops and factories, so there is always a lot of activity and noise around us. Our unit is a practical space designed for making clothes. We have rows of sewing machines and large cutting tables that take up most of the floor. It’s not the kind of place you’d go for a fancy tour; it’s a working factory where people are busy with their hands all day. The heat in Chennai can be a bit much, especially in an industrial building, but we have our fans going and we just get on with it. We handle a lot of fabric here, so there are always scraps on the floor and lint in the air. Our office is just a small corner partitioned off with some glass so we can see the production line while we do the paperwork. We started here years ago and have just grown slowly by doing what we know. There’s no big marketing team or anything like that. We just focus on the garments and making sure they are stitched properly before they get packed into the boxes. It’s a lot of repetitive work, but we take a certain pride in seeing the finished piles at the end of every shift.
