You can find Sri Lakshmi Fashions at No. 7 Rajeev Gandhi Nagar in Ekkaduthangal. We’re tucked away in a spot that isn’t too hard to find if you know the local area well. Inside, it’s mostly just rows of shelves filled with fabric and a few workstations where we do the tailoring and design work. We aren't a high-end boutique with mirrors everywhere and soft carpets. It’s more of a dusty workshop where we put things together by hand. Some days it’s very quiet and we just work on a single piece of clothing, and other days the whole place is a mess of paper patterns and cloth scraps. Ekkaduthangal is a busy hub, so there’s always people and traffic moving around outside our door. We just stay inside and focus on the clothes we are making. The sewing machines have their own temperament, and we’ve learned over time which ones need a bit of extra oil to keep running smooth. We don't have a big marketing plan or anything fancy like that. People just know we are here and they come in when they need something made or altered. We try to keep the place tidy, but when you’re working with fashion and different textiles, things tend to get a bit cluttered by the end of the day. We’ve been at this address for a while and have seen the neighborhood change, but our work remains pretty much the same. It’s just us, some fabric, and a lot of sewing.
