Sri Chakkara Fried Gram Mills

Our mill is located at 71 Acharappan Street. If you know the area, you know it’s a busy street where everyone is always on the move. At Sri Chakkara Fried Gram Mills, the main thing you notice is the smell of the gram being processed. It’s a warm, roasted scent that fills the whole building. We have been running the roasting machines here for a long time. It is a loud place because the mills are always humming and the sacks are being dragged across the floor. We deal with fried gram, so there is a bit of dust in the air and it can get quite hot near the equipment. Our staff consists of people from the neighborhood who know exactly how the machines should sound when they are working right. We don't have a big corporate structure or anything like that. It’s just us, the machines, and the bags of gram. Most of our day is spent making sure everything looks right and that the bags are stitched up properly for delivery. We have a small corner where we keep our ledgers and have our tea. It’s a simple operation, really. We just come in, start the machines, and keep things moving until it’s time to go home. The street outside is always packed, but inside we just focus on the work at hand. We've been here through many seasons and just keep the mill running.
