Out here at Smidth Tech Engg. Pvt. Ltd., things are usually moving pretty fast. We’re located at Plot No: 2 in Royal Nagar, right on Kavalcherry Road in the Thirumazhisai area of Poonamallee. It’s a bit of a trek for some, but it’s a good spot for what we do. Engineering is the core of everything that happens inside these walls. We have a mix of old machines and some newer stuff that we’re still getting used to. The crew is mostly local guys who have been working in shops around Poonamallee for years. We don't really have a front desk person sitting there waiting; usually, you have to shout a bit to get someone’s attention over the hum of the equipment. We deal with a lot of technical specs and sometimes the paperwork gets a bit piled up on the desks in the corner. We aren’t trying to be the biggest firm out there, just one that gets the job done without too much fuss. The road outside, Kavalcherry Road, gets quite dusty in the summer and muddy when the monsoon hits, but that’s just life in this part of town. We just keep the doors open and stay busy with whatever orders are on the books. It’s practical work for practical people, and we like it that way. We spend a lot of time just making sure the parts are cut right before they are sent off to the next stage.
