Walking up the stairs to the first floor at Door No. 21 can be a bit of a workout when you’re carrying heavy bags. We are located right on Nemilichery High Road in Chromepet, so it is never quiet outside. You can hear the horns and the buses all day long. Our space at Plot No. 133 isn't huge, but we make it work for everything we do with the leathers. Most mornings start with opening the shutters and letting some air in, though the dust from the high road comes in too. We have these big workbenches that have been here for years. They have marks and scratches all over them from where we cut the material. This is a busy area, so there’s always someone popping in to ask a question or a delivery guy looking for the right door. We spend a lot of time just inspecting the grain and the thickness of the pieces we get. It’s a lot of standing up and leaning over the tables. My back usually aches by three in the afternoon, so I take a short walk down the street to get some water or a snack. The light in the office isn't the brightest, but we know where everything is even in the dark. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing. When the fans are spinning, it’s not too bad. It’s just a regular job in a regular part of town.
